About the Powerplex

Centered on a planned nuclear facility capable of producing up to 10 megawatts, Powerplex would bring together nuclear energy, storage, research systems, and industrial applications in one integrated environment. The goal is to help researchers and partners study how clean, reliable energy systems perform at a meaningful scale.

Powerplex is part of Missouri S&T’s broader vision for nuclear education, research, demonstration, and deployment. Alongside MSTR Reimagined and the Gateway Project, Powerplex would help create a pathway from student training and foundational research to real-world energy demonstration and future industry use.

The project is currently in a planning and evaluation phase. Missouri S&T is studying technology options, system design, potential locations, cost and funding, regulatory pathways, and community priorities. No final decisions have been made about construction, reactor technology, site location, or deployment.

If developed, Powerplex would support applied research, hands-on student training, industry collaboration, and economic development for Missouri. It is designed around a practical goal: preparing the people, systems, and partnerships needed for Missouri’s next energy economy.
