Powerplex and the Rolla Community

Powerplex is being planned with a strong commitment to transparency, safety, and community engagement. Missouri S&T knows a next-generation nuclear energy project raises fair questions and is committed to answering them clearly, listening to feedback, and sharing information as it becomes available. Listening sessions will be held in the future to invite community feedback.

What This Means for the Community

At this stage, Powerplex is being planned primarily as a campus research and demonstration facility, and is not expected to change local electricity bills or residential utility service.

Powerplex is focused on research, student training, technology demonstration, and campus energy systems. Any future relationship with local utilities, regional infrastructure, or the electric grid would require separate technical, regulator, partnership, and community discussions.

As the project develops, Missouri S&T will continue to share updates in clear and plain language so residents can understand what is being considered and why. Please check back often for updates.

How to Get Involved

We want to hear from you. Whether you are a resident, educator, business owner, or simply interested in learning more, there are several ways to get involved. Community members can attend listening sessions, ask questions, and share feedback throughout the project. Representatives are also available to speak with local groups. Sign up for project updates and future engagement opportunities.

Safety and Oversight

Safety is the top priority. Any future project would undergo extensive federal and state review, including public input. The process would evaluate facility design, operations, emergency planning, environmental impacts, security, staffing, and long-term safety.
